Commoning Blocks

Commoning blocks are insulated modular parts that connect cables with equal electrical potential. These blocks are affixed to bases that connect them to DIN rail mountings. Each pole of the block is linked internally by a copper busbar, providing a low resistance connection path.

Commoning blocks have up to three connection levels, which allow for easy insertion of conductors. The connection bars are nickel plated to protect the component against corrosion.

What are commoning blocks used for?

Commoning blocks are often used in junction boxes, panel boards and equipotential earthing applications. They allow for the disconnection of branch wires without interrupting the main conductors and shutting down the circuit. They are typical in medical industries where potential (charge) equalisation is necessary to earth (ground) equipment and electrical instruments.

Types of commoning blocks

Commoning blocks come in a variety of types, with different physical attributes like pole length, size and number of poles. Blocks are categorised as double row, single pole, multi-pole or quick connect.

Commonning blocks are also distinguished by the level of potential they are compatible with in terms of voltage and ampere range.
