Astrophotography: improved sensitivity to hydrogen-alpha light for better pictures of red-emission nebulae
Night security: Keep watch for burglars without disturbing neighbours (Requires IR illumination, see Note)
Wildlife photography: Watch animals at night with a remote camera (Requires IR illumination)
The Pi NoIR camera is sensitive to short-wavelength IR radiation (around 880nm) produced by infrared emitting LEDs such as RS Part No. 778-1444 or 699-7666. It is not sensitive to long-wavelength IR radiation (heat) so requires a LED 'illuminator' to see in the dark. For outdoor security applications: RS Part No. 524-5393
Blue filter for making an Infragram.
