Raspberry Pi High Definition (HD) Camera Board
The HD Pi NoIR Camera Board is identical to the HD Camera Board in all aspects but one - it does not have an infra-red filter. The camera board also comes supplied with a small, blue plastic filter to use as an infragram.
The Camera Board connects to any Raspberry Pi computer board or Compute Module, allowing complete beginners and Raspberry Pi enthusiasts to create HD video and still photography.
Using the 15 cm ribbon cable attached to the camera & video board. The Pi boards each have a CSI (camera serial interface) port that the ribbon cable can slot into. It's that simple!
Once you are connected, you can access the camera board via the MMAL(Multi-Media Abstraction Layer), the V4L (Video for Linux) APIs or a library such as Picamera Python (amongst many others that you can find online). Via Raspbian, there are 3 applications that you can use to take your photos or videos - Raspistill and Raspistillyuv for photography and Raspivid for videos.
Note: You will need an infra-red illuminator to see anything in the dark
What can I create with the HD Pi NoIR Camera Board?
This is entirely up to you! The Pi NoIR camera board is great for photography and video in the dark and is popular with botanical and wildlife applications. You could even use the board for night-time security purposes!
