Baseboard
The core element is the Baseboard, a reusable development platform for evaluation and development of different microcontroller manufactures, technologies and applications. The platform consists of four identical development stations with a host of breakout peripherals and bus options for maximum flexibility.
- Extended Euro card size (220 x 100 mm) for standard rack systems
- fitted +3.3V and +5V voltage regulators, a back-up battery, an RJ45 Ethernet connector, a mini-USB connector, +12 volt power-supply jack, I/O breakout header and eight DIP switches ported onto the system I2C
- up to three I2C buses and two CAN networks available
- With the addition of a 64-way DIN connecter the Baseboard can be plugged into the backplane of a standard rack system (RS connector part number 381-8696)
- To allow easy transition from a prototype solution to full scale production, all design files, parts lists, supporting application notes and example programs are available online, IP free (see the Resources section)

EDP CPU Modules
The unique design of the development stations on the EDP Baseboard, accepts any plug-in EDP CPU Module, which allow the testing and development of specific microcontrollers across different technologies and manufacturers. Therefore, reducing project costs by removing the need to purchase and adapt to manufacturer specific development kits. Currently available EDP CPU Modules are the Infineon XC167 and the ST Microelectronics STR912, with more coming soon
- STR9-based CPU module comprises: EDP-CM-STR9 STR9FAWX44 ARM966 module, Keil uVISION-ARM 16K and Hitex HITOP/GNU ARM Integrated Development Environments along with a CD containing all supporting documentation and example code
- XC167-based CPU module comprises: EDP-CM-XC167 XC167CI-40F module, CS8900 TCP/IP stack, Keil uVISION-166 4K and HiTOPXC Integrated Development Environments along with a CD containing all supporting documentation and example code

EDP Application Modules
The EDP Baseboard stations can also accept any of the plug-in EDP Application Modules, to enable the construction of solutions based around the microcontroller. The ready made Application Modules reduce the time and cost associated with searching for reference designs, designing and constructing application circuits around the microcontroller. Currently available EDP Application Modules are shown below, with more coming soon
- EDP Analogue 16 Input application module: allows up to 28 analog channels to be interfaced to a microcontroller with the on-board MAX1138 ADC providing the extra 12 channels of 10-bit analog to digital conversion
- EDP Digital I/O application module: provides a means to apply digital signals to the CM. 12 input channels with overvoltage protection, 16 TTL inputs accessed via I2C, 16 500mA outputs and 16 25mA logic outputs
- EDP Motor Control application module: allows motor control for brushed DC motors up to 12V, 3A directly via a LM18200 driver. Inputs for current sense, tacho gen, DC volts, 2 limit switches, chopper and quad encoders
- EDP Basic Comms application module: allows easy interfacing to CPU modules via USB device socket, USB host socket, USBLC6, RS232 on 9-D, RS232/485 on 9-D, 2x CAN on 9-D, MAX232, RS485 interface and a RTC
